Mr. Green Bartlett and L. McMahan built Bartlett Springs Resort in 1871. Four years later, the resort’s cabins and hotels housed 5,000 guests every season.

During the 1880’s, the McMahan’s hired Chinese workers to construct a road through steep terrain from Lucerne, CA to Bartlett Springs. The road provided a travel route for visitors and supplies to the springs. Later, a fire destroyed structures at Bartlett Springs Resort in the 1930’s, and the resort never fully recovered.

Though the buildings have long since burned, the road to the once popular resort remains. Travel is still possible using a 4×4 during dry conditions.
