Dedicated to the Chinese god of war, a Taoist symbol of integrity and loyalty, the Temple of Kwan Tai offers living evidence of Mendocino’s 19th Century Chinese community. This temple is a simple rectangular building of shiplap redwood siding with a gable roof. The exterior is painted red and green, from the leftover paint used for painting railroad stations.
